Photography isn’t possible during the service so I happily settled for some establishing shots of the Abbey and wide angle shots from the back to include the ornate ceilings and heraldic flags. The gardens that were set aside for the formal family photographs but it was teeming with rain so an impromptu stop within the private residents cloisters were made, and we amiably rattled through the list before anyone got cold, and then on to a pair of London Routemaster Buses to take all the guests back to Inner Temple for the reception.

Priya Patel was on hand at Inner Temple and her staff ensured that plentiful supplies of champagne and canapés was served to restore the guests and and shortly everyone was called through to the main dining room. After the speeches and coffee an unusual alternative to the traditional DJ was setup – the ‘Shellac Sisters’ with 78 speed turntables and an amazing collection of Charleston and dance LP’s from the early 20th Century filled the dance floor immediately.

Dear Sam and Douglas

Thank you so much for all the support Douglas that you gave us on the
wedding day. You were so kind to our family and guests and we really
appreciated your commitment, experience and expertise. It made a huge
difference.

Kathryn sent us the link to the wedding photos. They look absolutely

Erring on the side of caution even though there was a break in the clouds we used one of the reception rooms for the family photographs, and got through them in good time. There then followed, less formally than the service itself a small service, Robin leading a Jewish ceremony and similarly Stephen’s mother, a Catholic reading. Lastly, and by no means least Rebecca’s male side of her family sang, with piano accompaniment, a humerous tribute to the bride’s life. The reception continued, with the wedding breakfast and the speeches.

If anyone had any plans to take it easy after coffee then they had to think again as the excellent ‘License to Ceilidh’ had everyone reeling to ‘Stripping the Willow’ and ‘Dashing White Sergeant’.

The Old Naval College’s Painted Hall is described as the finest dining room in Europe and its easy to see why, designed by Sir Christopher Wren and Nicholas Hawksmoor and extravagantly decorated over 19 years by James Thornhill. A wedding reception could not hope for a grander venue so steeped in history.

After the wedding breakfast and speeches, everyone moved downstairs and through to the vaulted ceilings of the room set aside for the dancing, the band, ‘Cover to Cover’ got everyone on their feet.

The church,  ‘All Saints’ at Crondall filled up quickly before the service at 2.30pm. Luckily for me there is a long path from the gate to the entrance to the building so I had the chance to capture Felicity with her father and the attending Bridesmaids several times as the made their way to the porch for the final adjustments .

After a few formal photographs everyone made their way to Shackleford and the marquee on the lawn. The marquee had been well planned in that elements of the garden were incorporated into the reception but within the tented area, such as clusters of flowers or small trees which adds charm to the venue.

The speeches were before the wedding breakfast and included a genuinely funny potted history of Sam’s life from the Best Man and a moving speech from Caroline and Emily. Lastly after a dramatic reveal, the band struck up and Sam and Felicity could dance together for the first time as man and wife.I would like to thank them for ensuring that Chris and I were well fed and watered and hope they really enjoy their Honeymoon.
