All the guests gathered on a very hot afternoon at Westminster Pier to set off by boat for the Cable and Buoy Wharf, an unknown venue to me. The trip up the Thames passing all the familiar sites presented new angles and viewpoints, together with champagne and nibbles kept everyone in high spirits.<\/p>\n

The wharf is on the opposite side of the river to the Millennium Dome, and enjoys the title of the only lighthouse in London. The day had a scientific theme with all the tables named after eminent physicists and chemists, and even Faraday’s lab was sited next door for curious guests to visit. The lighthouse itself is filled with Tibetan prayer bowls with a continuous ethereal computer music performance set to play for the next 3000 years \u2013 amazing.<\/p>\n

The guests enjoyed the ceremony and speeches and could play competitive games of table football or table tennis before sitting down to roast pork, which had been slowly BBQ\u2019d all afternoon. Barbara and Simone both gave personal, eloquent speeches, as did both mothers. The dancing was lead by a demonstration of Austrian clog dancing which everyone more or less got the hang of before more familiar wedding tunes kicked in.<\/p>\n
