Dear Sam, Many thanks for sending through the photos. Jo and I got back from honeymoon last night and have finally managed to look at them with the benefit of a slightly faster internet connection than we were afforded in the Seychelles – they look fantastic.

Wedding Photographed at The Savoy Hotel, St Etheldreda’s Church and Gibson Hall in London

Lucinda very sensibly prepared for her wedding at the Savoy Hotel as it was within easy reach of the church and provided comfortable and relaxed surroundings. It was an overcast day, which is perfect for portraiture as it allows the bride to turn face the window without squinting or hard shadows and still keep a flattering light. The same watery sun was still shining by the time we got to the church but the rain had now started to come down in earnest.  To make up for the soaking there is a short cloister which is en route to the church itself which owing to its position has a large soft window light along its length illuminating a bride and father perfectly as they walk through and this is what I waited for. The interior of St Etheldreda’s is dark but the fast prime lenses cope easily and capture all the important moments, the exchange of vows and rings too.

Gibson Hall is an old Bank and has a huge grand hall where the wedding breakfast took place, the space allowed for a larger band and dance floor without moving the tables. The lighting at this venue is varied as they use a combination of fluorescent tubes and energy bulbs casting a mixed light on the scene, so to keep shooting without resorting to a very distracting flash for the rest of the day, I switched to a fixed colour temperature on the cameras and shot manually to make sure that all the skin tones are reproduced naturally in post production the following day.

Hi Samantha Thank you very much for your e-mail, so lovely to look at the photos and they all look great! Please pass on my thanks to Douglas as he was amazing on the day.

Wedding Photographer Savoy Hotel and Kings College, London

YuanYuan prepared for her wedding day in the Savoy Hotel which can easily provide the comforts and air of calm so needed for a bridal party before a wedding. The long views across the Thames are worth taking a few moments to appreciate too. The Kings College Chapel is much more ornate and grand than the more austere outside of the building would suggest, and is a remarkable piece of Victorian architecture and definitely needed me to take a number of images on the widest angle lens to give the guests a sense of place and capture the grandeur of this first floor chapel. I took the couple off for a short walk along the terrace for some wedding portraits making the most of the very low sunshine to backlight YuanYuan’s hair and veil. The reception rooms too had great views across the Thames and I stayed to capture the animated conversation around the tables during the meal without flash, using the available light and fast lenses.
